I started playing guitar at age 8. My first guitar was borrowed from my uncle, a Kay hollow body with rusted strings and action about an inch off the neck. I stuck with it long enough for my parents to buy me my first "real" guitar, an El Degas Les Paul goldtop knock-off. For the next eight years I jammed with various musicians, including my cousin, a drummer, and anyone that would let me plug in my amp. My first full band was a young upstart called Raven Bitch, which eventually took off (after kicking my sorry ass out) and achieved a modicum of notoriety with their demo "Tear Down the Walls". Some early recordings can be heard on the RB website (circa 1983), along with some ubercool pictures of my hulking seventeen-year-old self. I did a few more demos and formed a few more bands and eventually recorded my first serious demo with Mike and Greg Kalember, Brian Dwyer and myself in 1987. After Raven Bitch broke up, I was fortunate enough to hook up with Dan Witt and Scarlet Winter was born (1989). We recorded a demo, played a bunch of shows (including the Wakesha Expo Center and a guitar player's convention in Chicago), and the band split up; I formed Kingsrath, which basically played the same material (I had written all songs for both bands), did one demo with them and three shows, one of which was attended by approximately ten people (a bit disheartening when only a year earlier most shows were packed). In 1991, after waking up one morning and staring at a pair of tennis shoes held together with duct tape and realizing that I didn't own one pair of pants without holes, I left the music scene, got married, moved and attended college. I got my BA in English and Philosophy and went on to earn my MFA in Writing. Between 1991 and 2002 I played acoustic guitar exclusively. In 2002, I started putting together a home studio and got interested in electronica. A chapbook of poems was released in 2004 followed by a full-length collection in 2006. That's about it, really.
